Tifa Lockhart (ティファ・ロックハート Tifa Rokkuha:to) is a character in Final Fantasy VII, a computer role-playing game developed by Square (currently Square Enix). Tifa’s design and personality were designed by Tetsuya Nomura. Subsequently, Tifa appeared in the fighting game Ehrgeiz, as well as the 2005 feature film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, a sequel to the original game, and other Final Fantasy VII compilation projects.
As a member of the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE, as well as the owner of the 7th Heaven Bar in the slums of Midgar, Tifa is also a childhood friend of Cloud Strife, the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII. After convincing him to join the group, Tifa later helps him save the planet from the game’s antagonist, Sephiroth. In the Final Fantasy VII compilation, her role was expanded, most notably in Advent Children, where she tries to convince Cloud to give up his self-imposed feelings and continue living a normal life with Sephiroth’s defeat.
The New York Times called Tifa an attractive girl from the «cyber generation», comparing her with Lara Croft as an example of a strong, independent and beautiful heroine in video games. The media has repeatedly praised the character’s strength and appearance, positioning Tifa as one of the best female gamers.
